What Did We Miss Most About Kona While Off Island For a Month?

West Hawaii Beach

People sometimes ask, “When you live in Hawaii, where do you go to take a vacation?”

We traveled to France for the first time in June and while we were exploring the country, we found many things we missed about Kona and Hawaii Island!

Of course, there were some things the French do that I wish the US could take note on including sustainability and shunning egregious use of plastic, but for the most part, we found that the Aloha spirit is a commodity you take for granted when you live on the island sometimes.

Showcasing the best of Kona in video!

Eric and I created a video discussing the things we missed and we filmed it around Kailua Bay. The comments for the video show we are not alone in the things we love about our town!

A few things that I didn’t mention in the video about Kona:

  • When we were in Paris, the temperature climbed to 100 degrees on the day we went to the top of the Eiffel Tower! We NEVER get that kind of heat here! THANK GOODNESS! Summiting the tower is also not quite as scenic as summiting Mauna Kea.
  • The beaches on the Cote D’Azure were mostly rocks and the way to enjoy the beach was to pay for the use of lounge chairs or else you were on the rocks. Sure, we have our share of lava, but thank goodness, we have nice soft sand, too!
  • Since France sits on the Mediterranean Sea, they don’t have sea turtles, dolphins, whales or seals (or surfers!)  They don’t have much wildlife on the land in general either, where we have the goats, mouflon, peacocks, turkeys, etc. I didn’t realize how much LIFE we have everywhere on and around the island.
  • And of course, no one has sunsets like we do!

So, here is the video-Enjoy!

Helping Fellow Lovers of Hawaii Island!

One thing we love about Kona is the community! We help people create community with our 365 groups around the island. We also help people with connections, resources, advice and knowledge about moving to the island and buying a home. When you work with us or our Realtor team, you have access to events, volunteer opportunities, potlucks, beach gatherings, and more!
