The Emmy-nominated documentary Keeper of the Bay, which honors the life and legacy of Aunty Cindi Punihaole, is coming home to Kona for a powerful red-carpet screening on October 17, 2025, hosted by the 365 Hawaii Island Community Fund in collaboration with Kona Elks Lodge #2616.
Keeper of the Bay has captured hearts around the world with its moving portrait of Aunty Cindi, a Native Hawaiian cultural and environmental steward whose decades-long work has protected the coral reefs of Kahaluʻu Bay through aloha ʻāina, Indigenous knowledge, and science. Directed by Ashley LoFaso and co-produced by Dear Ocean and LoFaso, the film was nominated for a 2024 Emmy and has received numerous awards for its impact.
Now, this celebrated story returns to the land that shaped it.
This one-night event will bring together community members, educators, environmental leaders, and policymakers to celebrate Aunty Cindi’s legacy and ignite collaborations to inspire the next generation of reef and ocean stewards. The evening features a silent auction, special appearances by the filmmaker and cast, and a VIP after-party designed to foster meaningful dialogue and community engagement.
